ASC: Abode of Values
It
was with excitement about Dev Bhumi Shimla, that I embarked on my journey from
the warm plains of Rajasthan, to attend the Refresher Course on Human Values
and Indian Ethos. The scenic beauty of the green hills, the low hanging
clouds, the towering majestic trees, the deep silent valleys, and the washed pristine
and peaceful atmosphere rubbed on to me, and filled me with elation, and music
seemed to burst from within.
The first day at the Academic Staff College enthused me to look forward to a highly
intellectual academic experience for the next three weeks. The impressive curriculum
and methodology as delineated by the esteemed Deputy Director Dr. K S Pathania
reflected the kind of commitment the ASC Shimla has towards quality of what they
offer to all participants, as well as the quality of what they expect from the
participants.
Being a person who loves the very process and challenge of Learning, I could not
believe my good luck at being part of a team which was made to explore the till
then shadowy history of Indian ethos and Culture. The richness of the Human Values
system as passed on through millenniums. The realization of what humanity has
done to it with the passage of time was an eye opener and learning for the very
soul.
Human Values as passed on through scriptures, religions, education, Literatures,
society, family, soil, air were all elaborated upon. Brainstorming was
done about the reasons of decline in human values in the current era of globalization
and consumerism. We learnt the valuable lessons for how we should start working
at the individual levels towards betterment of the areas of life that we touch
and influence.
Our Course Co-coordinator Dr. G D Sharma seemed to be the very epitome of Human
Values his benign presence; his simplicity and dignity were themselves
lessons in Human Values. Most of the Resource Persons were highly acclaimed personalities
in their fields. This Refresher Course gave us the precious chance to interact
with them in most friendly interactive sessions.
All gratitude and heartfelt thanks to Dr. Yoginder Verma Director ASC who is at
the helm of affairs, and whose vision and discipline has made this ASC a most
sought after destination for University and college teachers of all disciplines.
