My Association With Academic Staff College, Shimla (H.P.)

I attended a Refresher Course in Value Education at ASC, Shimla. It was with a heavy heart that I left Jalandhar and my family for a long period of 19 days. It seemed that I had a long arduous course ahead of me.

But the course was a joy in itself. Once again I learnt how important it is to remain a student and learn all your life. I cam back wiser having learnt to value values more. The course was a training in self discipline. I learnt the importance of moral education and how values and spiritual development of man is necessary.

In the Academic Staff College we were made to discuss one thought every day. This is one practice which I preach even today. I discuss a thought in my class for atleast five minutes every day. It serves as moral exercise both for me and my students.

We realized that there is a need to revive the eroding value system and also learnt how to inculcate values and how to live a life full of values. I am eternally grateful to the ASC Shimla and its members. Whenever I think of this Refresher Course in value education the following lines come to my mind :

“Can I see others woe
and not share their sorrow too?
O no, never can it be,
Never never can it be”
