Dr. (Professor) Yoginder S. Verma

Dr. Yoginder S. Verma (born 18.2.1952) is Professor of Management Studies and Director, UGC-Academic Staff College. He held the positions of Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, H P University, Shimla; Director, Institute of Integrated Himalayan Studies (UGC-Centre of Excellence; Director, Institute of Management Studies, H P University; Director, IAS Coaching Centre and Director, University College of Business Studies. Dr. Verma is also helping university as Nodal Officer of Internal Quality Assurance Cell of H P University. He has the experience of being educational administrator in the university system since 1989.

Prof. Verma is having distinct academic career with gold-medal at graduation level. His qualifications are B.Com. (Gold-medalist), MBA (1976), M.Phil. and Ph.D. (UGC -Fellowship for Ph.D.). After short stint as management trainee in a Corporation, Dr. Verma started his teaching career in 1977. In 1982, the Union Public Service Commission selected Dr. Verma under Colombo Plan for posting in Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu. As an expert in Management, Dr. Verma contributed in nurturing the Institute of Management in Tribhuvan University and organized a number of workshops and consultancy camps (1983-85).

As an institutional builder, Dr. Verma established Institute of Integrated Himalayan Studies (UGC-Centre of Excellence) in 2002 and UGC-Academic Staff College in 1989 (considered to be one of the progressive ASCs in the country). He continues to shape and develop both of these institutions as Director. He is known for a number of innovations brought out in the process of human resource development in higher education in the country.

Dr. Verma has ten books to his credit including Marketing Environment and Practices in Nepal, University Administration and Management, Consumerism in India, Education in Human Values for Human Excellence, four volumes of Annotated Bibliography on Himalaya. 101 articles/papers have been published both in national and international journals. He presented papers and chaired sessions in a number of national and international seminars and workshops organized by Common Wealth Secretariat, UGC, UNESCO, Govt. of Nepal, Govt. of Australia, Norwegian University, USIEF, different university departments, etc. Under his direction, more than 410 reports and monographs have been produced (based on training programmes conducted for the university and college teachers, and research conducted in Centre of Excellence in Himalayan Studies).

Dr. Verma has produced ten Ph.D. students. He has also completed a couple of major research projects awarded by Ford Foundation, Indian Embassy Nepal, UGC, IIHS and ICSSR. His areas of interest are Values-based Management, HRD, Organizational Development and Educational Management. Dr. Verma is Chief Editor of Academe, Himlayan Studies Journal, IIHS Bulletin and ASC Newsletter. He is on the Advisory Board of about half a dozen Journals.

Dr. Verma is national assessor on the panel of National Assessment & Accreditation Council, Bangalore and was associated in the accreditation as Member as well as Member-coordinator in case of more than 25 institutions. He is member of a number of national level committees constituted by UGC, AICTE and NAAC. He continues to be a resource person in training programmes organised by NAAC, NAAA, HIPA, ASCs, UGC, NGOs and many other human resource development institutions.

Dr. Verma has been decorated with a number of awards such as Man of the Year, Best Citizens of India, Eminent Personalities of India, Ford Foundation Project, Deputy Governor of American Bibliographical Institute (USA), Eminent Management Specialist, etc. Dr. Verma is on the Advisory Boards/Committees of number of management institutes and Academic Staff Colleges. Dr. Verma is on the Board of Studies, RDC and Faculty of a number of universities. He is Fellow of All India Management Association and life member, Indian Institute of Public Administration, and Association of Educators.
