The Academic Staff College launched the CDI Project in February 1998. Since then, it has undertaken a number of activities. These activities are planned and managed by a Project Team including Project Director, Project Advisor and Members. The main objective of this project has been to sensitize teachers to diversity concerns and equip them with the teaching skills to enhance diversity issues in the classroom. It is also to develop an electronic database including the primary information relating to diversity in the college and university campuses of Himachal Pradesh. The information will be made available through Internet. Further it also aims at developing and executing training modules for training teachers in assuming leadership role. Under this project a number of activities have been undertaken during the period February 1998 December 2000. A brief account of these is given as under
20 workshops of the duration of one to three days have been organized in order to sensitize and train teachers to utilize the positive values of diversity in creating better academic environment and corporate life in the campuses. Among these workshops, 17 were held at Shimla in which teachers from the colleges and universities of different states of India participated.
One workshop at Regional Engineering College, Hamirpur was organized for engineering teachers. Two workshops were conducted in collaboration with ACORD, New Delhi at MLSM College, Sundernagar and Govt. College, Mandi. In these workshops teachers, students and members of community participated. One 3-day workshop was conducted at Shimla exclusively for the Principals of Colleges affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University in collaboration with ACORD, New Delhi.
